Guitar Tablature?

Question:Okay so i know how to read them but... on some you only put down one finger and it sounds to me like there is almost no change compared to no fingers at all...are you only supposed to strum those strings that the ingers on or all?

0's mean you play an open string. If there's nothing there, you don't play it. If there's an 'x', you mute it (put your finger on the string lightly so it doesn't make a noise when you strum).
