Question:My acoustic guitar only has one button for a strap...on the bottom...where do I put the other end of the strap so I can actually play it while I stand? (I'm kinda new to guitars so don't laugh at me if I used the wrong terms....I've only been playing for like...2 to 3 weeks)
My mom (who is even more ignorant than me when it comes to guitars) thinks I have to put it on one of the tuning pins, but I know that's not right, otherwise it'll probably de-tune that string and/or break it off....
I REALLY want to use my strap and I want to practice playing it standing up....Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

John E sort of has it right.....

You attach one end of the strap to the endpin on the bottom, then thread a shoelace or other strong cord through the hole at the other end of the strap and tie it around the headstock (the part where the tuning pegs are) just above the nut, under the strings (NOT above the bridge as John says). The nut is the plastic or bone part with grooves to hold the strings at the very top of the fingerboard right where the neck and the headstock meet.

The alternative would be to take the guitar to a luthier (repair person) and have a second strap button installed on the side of the heel (the curved part where the neck joins the body). Its a simple thing to do and shouldn't cost more than a few dollars.

I'm not laughing...i've played for 10 years and still don't know the answer to that question...Here's what I did though: I took a shoe lace and and tied it through the end of the strap and then wrapped the other end around the part just above bridge [running the lace underneath the strings]...

YOU HAVE GOT ME LAUGHING MY HEAD OFF! HAHA IMAGINE PUTTING IT ON THE TUNING PEGS YOUR GUITAR WOULD SOUND FUNNY. THE MISSING 'BUTTON' IS THE NUT. THAT IS THE WHITE BAR BEFOR THE FIRST FRET. YOU TIE THE STRAP THERE PROVIDING THE STRAP HAS STRING ON THE END
