Now you know that guitar isn't easy to play, a lot of kids think that in a couple of months that they'll be rock stars...and it doesn't happen that way...as you are now realizing... there are so many sites that can help with this. On of my favorites I'll give you at the end, you can click on the left side the name of the chord that you want to learn and on the right side a guitar finger board will come up showing you how to make it... and on the top you can click on things like a Dm chord and all the chords that you need to make regarding the D will show up on the left, it's great...and there is also a lot of interesting information on this site for guitar players. As for lessons on the Internet I'm not crazy about the free sites but I'll give you some anyway and you be the judge...some of the good sites they want you to buy DVDs, Videos, Cd's, books, or take their on-line lessons which I think are very good. They cost less then if you were to have a private teacher or go to a music store to take lessons, I really prefer that but I know that a lot of students cannot afford that so this is the next best thing. And don't worry if your not progressing as fast as you think you should....it takes time and lots of daily work, even if it's only a half hour a day, be consistent !!!!!!!
http://www.8notes.com/ (great site, this is the one that shows the chords, and also has a free electronic tuner, scroll up and down on this site, there are a lot of interesting things for guitarist on this site.

I hope this helps get you started on what you want to accomplish....don't worry about speed that come with practice, it's better to practice slowly....a lot of kids don't believe that untl after about a year of play and they wonder why their speed isn't up to what they think it should be....I still can't understand why speed seems to be the most important thing to students....if they only knew it's slow practice that benifits you the most !!!!!!!!!!

Practise, practise, practise! It worked for me!

My cousin's son has become very good despite only playing for a short time. He has six fingers on his left hand. I'm not sure how you could acquire another finger, but you may want to look into that.

Practice, practice ,practice!!!

Practice Practice Practice,as they say.I've been playing guitar for almost four years now.Its gonna feel a little weard the first few weeks you start it.Its not a great skill you learn overnight.Practicing everyday for at least 30 minutes, can build you a great skill at playing guitar.

Here are some things that might help:
1) Play with someone better than you.
2) Check out tabs online of favorite songs.
3) Practice alot.
4) Buy two inexpensive books on: 1) Chords 2) Scales.
5) Watch YouTube videos that feature people playing songs. Sometimes they show you how to play them.

dont jump right into the hard stuff. work your way up. if u wanna play rock, learn some judas priest songs, they are very easy. I have been playing for a year now, and i find their songs easiest. Also try some ACDC. You just got keep on practicing too. Work on hammer on and pull offs a lot. also try using your pinky a lot beccause a fourth finger can speed up the beat. buy a metradone to practice the beat. dont always play from ur book because it tends to get pretty boring after a while/

practice every day but give your mind time to rest. there are lots of tyoes of finger exercises that you can look for online. learning an intrument takes time and one day it will just click

just pick it up all the time. the more you play the better you'll get

i work at a jr. high. one of my students just told me about a web site he uses to teach himself how to play songs. its called tab crawler, i hope it helps :)

Close your eyes really tight. I see that at concerts.

practice your chords and scales, then scales and chords, then practice, practice and practice. After that practice your chords and scales. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over and some day you'll hear someone say, "wow, wish I played like THAT guy"

practice a lot, and dont try doing 100 exercises, just practice one for a long time until you can play it like god, and do that with every technique. try also recording yourself so you can hear what you are doing wrong and correct it so that it sounds the way you like
