Position:Home>Performing Arts> Bass vs. Electric.?

Question:Right now I'm learning Classic Spanish Acoustic. I'm teaching myself, I think I'm coming along pretty well...but it's always been my plan to move on to electric.
The thing is, since I've started playing, I've been paying attention more to the guitars in the music I love, & I don't know whether I like lead or bass guitar better.
I understand the differences, but I just love both. I really like the glitz & glam of lead guitar, I love Brian May's guitar solos (Queen) & I've listened to this guy called Buckethead, who is insanely good. I also love AC/DC stuff with guitar.
Then theres bass, I love John Deacon's playing (once again, Queen), but I've also started paying attention to other bass players, & even though I don't know their names, I've discovered I love the sound of the bass guitar.
I plan on learning both at some point, but considering that I'm fairly broke, I have to pick one for now.

I don't really have the opportunity to try both...
How do I know which is right for me?

Of course the other answer is correct, it's not an intellectual decision. A couple of things to consider however; if you want to perform in public, both instruments come with their own personality. Do you prefer being front and center, or being in the background? If you don't aspire to perform with a group, by all means stick with the guitar. You will build on skills you already have and have the option of playing out, or just for your own enjoyment. (sitting around playing bass alone gets boring fast).

It's not something you can decide intellectually - it has to be experienced. Therefore, you'll need to somehow make the opportunity to try both.

Maybe try networking a little with the people around you to see if you can find a bass to borrow for a while.
