Question:I have an acoustic/electric guitar with pickups only (no pre-amp). I want to know if a pre-amp is necessary for maximum tone and volume for this amp (see below). Or could I get full power and volume without a pre-amp for this particular amplifier? The description says there is a preamp already installed I think (maybe I misread?) Just want to know if I need to buy a preamp. Thanks in advance!

A pre-amp with that amp would be kind of pointless, your not going to get much more drive from a pre-amp, how good the tone and volume are will really depend on the quality of you pickups, if they are fishman, then the likelyhood is that is the best your going to get.

All amps have pre and power amps. Your guitar doesn't so you've no control over the signal it sends to the amp. The Peavy is a good enough amp, but you really need a guitar with a pre-amp in it or one that is between the pickup & the amplifier. Hope this helps.
