carlos santana in the song open invitation, about 1979 album inner secrets

I think the answer depends on ones tastes, classical, rock, etc. I think there are so many, too many to choose one above the rest. I think Mark Knopfler's solos are great, but so are Eric Clapton's, David Gilmour.... and so many more!

You are opening up a huge can of worms with this question but I'm going to answer anyway. My Top 5 would be 1: Free Bird-Lynyrd Skynyrd 2.Eruption-Eddie Van Halen 3:Hotel California-The Eagles. 4:Stairway To Heaven-Led Zeppelin 5:Sweet Child O Mine-Guns N Roses. Another under rated guitar solo that I happen to really like is the solo in You Can Still Rock In America by Night Ranger. This question is a long standing debate so it should be interesting to see what people think.

Classical Gas, Mason Williams.

well for me its the solo of soma by the smashing pumpkins cause even though its not a virtuoso solo it adds a lot to the song
