I like acoustic guitar,It's nice and clean. But to me the electric guitar comes alive. It has all the emotion an acoustic has, plus It has raw power on demand. To me its like comparing a Geo Metro to a Chevy Camaro, they are both cars and get you where you want to go,but the Camaro has some awesome style.
Seriously though the electric guitar has many options that an acoustic doesn't,but it's also more difficult to control at first.
you have to control ringing open notes and limit your finger noise, feedback, and even pick noise(sometimes these very noises become 1 of the desireable parts in a riff).
However, all that being said. Some things do sound better on an acoustic.Electric guitars just don't get the same timbre or the ringing overtones that acoustic guitars get.So some melodies seem made for acoustic guitar. So I would say that since you have played acoustic, maybe it's time to try out the electric, just push up the gain a little and remember to stop the ringing strings.Try to incorporate the stops into your syncopation to form a pattern,as you would form a strumming pattern on the acoustic.
And one more thing don't be intimidated, play the guitar with attitude.Or whatever the emotion of the part calls for.Lots of luck to you.

theirs hardly any different u just need an amp 4 an electric guitar and a lead the strings may also seem closer together on electric if ur used to playing types like Spanish
