What can you lose....go for it...it will give you the experience that you need to play in front of people...and it will also tell if you have what it takes to perform without getting nervous...this experience will also tell you what you have to work on, be it nerves, lack of confidence, or fear....so go for it and good luck to you....if you are nervous the first time out that's normal...some professionals like Barbara Streisand never do get over their nerves...you'll never know until you try !!!!!!!!
