Make sure your hands are in the proper position. Playing flat-fingered will cause a lot of errors. Imagine a ball resting under your palms. Try not to pick up your fingers from the keys, either... always a problem of mine. :)

When playing a piece, take it slow enough where you don't make any mistakes. In my case, that's reeeeaalllly slow, but it works. Then build up speed as you play accurately. Play just a few measures at a time.

If the sheetmusic has fingerings (some do, some don't), refer to those as a guideline to place your fingers as you play. Some passages are made much easier by following these!

To gain speed/accuracy:
Play some scales, too (be SURE to get a scalebook and follow the fingerings)-- but vary your rhythms. For example, start by playing all straight eighth notes. Then play a dotted eighth and sixteenth pattern, then flip the rhythm (sixteenth, then dotted eighth). Penultimately, play the scale in triplets. Finally, move to sixteenth notes. It's hard, but worth it. Work on smoothing out the sound and keeping rhythms precise. Use a metronome.

And, just like everyone else says, keep practicing-- even if you only have fifteen minutes a day. Any time at the keyboard helps!
Posture also makes a difference-- sitting too close to the keyboard will cause your hands to cramp up and you won't have room to play. Sit on the edge of the piano bench, spine straight, with your knees just behind the edge of the keys (about one to two inches).

Hope this helps!

practice practice practice.... as you do it over and over, your coordination will improve as you are literally carving a pathway into the brain cells.

Try different exercises with your fingers. As a piano player, your fingers are numbered 1-5 (thumb as 1). If you'd like, write on your fingers, and try slowly tapping with your dominant hand the pattern: "12345 54321 54535251 545321 15453525 1545321" until you can play it quickly. Try this exercise with both hands. This will start to help your fingers be able to differentiate between each other. Think of other patterns (135324 on repeat). These are good exercises when starting piano and will help you control your fingers. Playing piano takes time, but it's very rewarding. Piano lessons with a teacher would also be extremely beneficial!

PRACTICE! You need to get used to the fingers. I know, practicing is boring, but orginize it. Play the songs you used to play. Keep track to play each song you have to practice 10 times each day. In the future you will learn how music can be beautiful.

practice

there's this book called hanon. buy and practise it.

Everyone is uncoordinated when they first start. As long as you like the piano, continue to learn to play. You'll look back at this time and be thrilled at the difference sticking to it has made in your ability and skills. Good luck
