Question:How hard is it?
I currently play Mallets in Percussion, but we have an abundance of Percussion players this year, and I was thinking about switching to Alto Sax.

and another question, do you have a guesstimate about how much it costs to rent a saxaphone from the school.

Well, you have defiantly get rhythms quickly but switching from a percussion instrument to a wind instrument might be a bit difficult because you're using something totally new: your mouth. However, saxophone would be considerably easier than other wind instruments because it has keys and no holes to cover-up. I say go for it! The only you'll have to work on is your ombusure (mouth), but it should be quick to pick it up because you're not coming from another and different wind instrument.

I'd estimate about 50 bucks a month...roughly.

u gotta set a embouchure and stuff but the notes r thew same i think

depends how nice of condition it is

i dont know . My school's instrument rental plan is free and all u have to do is buy the accessories (reed), so it should be much. And alto sax is a great choice ( i play alto and baritone sax). I just got mine fro McFadyen (before they went bankrupt ) for like $32 a month.

when i was in highschool, i switched from playing flute to alto sax in a jazz band. i found it to be fairly easy, but i think it was because the fingering of notes was basically the same and I had already had expience in woodwind instruments. it may take a while for you to learn how to use the reed on the mouth piece and learn the finger combination for notes, but the instrument itself isn't hard. good luck!
