Can you change only one string in an acoustic guitar?

Yeah you can. If the other strings have been on for some time it's probably a good idea to change the rest as soon as you can, but it should be OK for a while. Hope this helps.

Sure you can, I very rarely do that because I play classical, and for some reason on that guitar it's always the D string that breaks...it's weird but that's always the one that breaks.....and by the time it breaks it's usually over six months old and looks like a wet noodle when I take it off... so I just change them all...but there have been occasions when I didn't have another set so I would just change the D with a spare that I keep in my case.... until I get out to get another set because it does sound brighter if the strings are 3 - 6 months old....and depending on how much I've played. Now on my acoustic, I've only had it for just about a year....and because of a neck problem I haven't played it much so I haven't had to change any of the strings yet....you do know that most music stores sell strings individually. So unless these strings are real old I wouldn't worry about it....if the others are real old....your new string may sound brighter....good luck...bye !!!!!! I rarely break strings on my classical...maybe because I change them ....and it also depends on how much I've played !!!!! I have an old Gibson that's been in my closet for years, my Father played this in the clubs in Philly back in the fiftys's, every once in a while I get it out....and I bet those strings have been on for about ten years...I rarely broke electric gutiar strings....but I'm going to have to dig this guitar out....and check to see...your not suppose to leave strings on a guitar if your not going to play it for a long period of time....I'm glad that you got me thinking of this....I better get it out and check that they aren't all poped, or that the guitar has a warped the neck because of not removing them !!!!!!!!!

I would say that if one breaks, you should replace all of them. Apparently, the neck can be affected if you don't. Don't want to namedrop, but Greg Lake told me that when I was 14
