It somewhat depends on what you're playing now, and what you'd like to learn. Generally, yes, it's easier because you don't have to re-learn reading music. You can just concentrate on learning the fingerings/techniques of the new instrument. Some instruments are much easier to switch to. For example, flute/clarinet/sax all have fingerings that are similar to each other, valve brass instruments are easier to switch around on if you already play one, and going from piano to a mallet percussion instrument is an easier transition.

I kinda think that's true because I played flute since 5th grade [junior now] and I was generally not good at it, then freshmen year I switched to French horn and I find it quite easy.

i found it was i learned the trombone in 4th grade and my father taught me how to play the bugle trumpet baritone and tuba also
