How much do flute cost?

Question:i do not plan on getting serious with it i just want a flute to kinda play in meantime but i dont want to go high quality.im ok with used just i dont plan on spending more than 20$, i dont care if it sucks i just kinda want to goof off,it doesnt have to sound the best either,

oh and how would you convince your parents to get you one for christmas if your mom would rip your head off if she found out you wanted to play another instrument,(but your dads ok with it)

$20 is way too cheap. For that price you might be able to get a rusty mangled up junker at a garage sale.

For a playable, used flute, you are looking at a few hundred dollars. You should shop around at local music stores and eBay to find the best deal. Your mom might be happier if you get a flute rent to own, where you pay a monthly rent for the flute until it is paid off. That way, if you give it up after a couple months, they can return it and they haven't spent much money.

If you seriously can't spend more than $20 or so, consider a recorder flute or a tin whistle. They are cheap, have no moving parts, and are easy to play, although not easy on the ears.

My flute which isn't the best quality but is silver-plated was about $900--I don't think you'll get anything under $100-200 : )

Sorry but you won't find a flute for under $20. Even the cheap ones are at least $150. My first one was $350 and my current one is worth thousands. They can range from $150 to around $60,000. A flute is not one of those instruments (or any instrument for that matter) to just goof around on. You could try to do a rent-to-own thing or just rent one. Ebay may have flutes for a cheap price range, but that isn't my first choice so be careful if you that route. You could also see if a friend has one you could borrow too.

And there is nothing wrong with playing multiple instruments either, but you need to be committed to the instrument. These are not just toys.

Flutes range in price new from $200 to $20,000. Even used, you WON'T find one for under $50. You just won't. Quite frankly, If I were your parent, the reason to buy or NOT buy a flute for you would have much more to do with your ATTITUDE than cost. You don't REALLY seem to be taking learning flute seriously. Knowing how to play multiple instruments is a GREAT thing, but from your posts, this just seems like a passing fancy for you. I'm sorry to sound so harsh, but unless you are willing to COMMIT to LEARNING the flute more than it sounds like you are now, there IS no way to convince your parents to buy the flute.
