Name it after something or someone that you truly care about. Name it after a mentor or muse. Name it after the personality you discover in the instrument. Name it after a challenge that you are working to overcome. The best way I have found is to discover your instrument's personality and name it after that. Sometimes an inside joke works well though. My Cello is called Annette, my funny Cello after Annette Funnicello os Mousekateers and Beach blanket movie fame. One of my violins is named Morris after Morris the Cat. When you reveal, or others discover for themselves, the whimsy behind the name, it makes for a little bit of fun that can play out over and over again.
