I tell all my students to start with acoustic...this will get you the callouses required to play comfortably and train your muscles in your hands and fingers...bass guitars have very thick strings, so to me working up to this is better then starting out
with them !!!!!!!

If you wanna play bass, then start with one. But it never hurts to be able to play a six string either. A cheap nylon string one is a good cheap option. Your fingers will hurt for the first part regardless, so go with what you prefer.

Either an acoustic 6 string, or electric would be easier to start with. You could always figure out the bass run from these before you buy a bass guitar. Purchase one that has a fairly thin neck, and make sure the strings are close to the frets. Conditioning your fingers, and practice is going to be the # 1 priority. Good luck.

people usually starts with acoustic.. i did. i love electric though. i don't play bass but i heard it's way easier than guitar, cos you're just playing 4 strings instead of 6.
