Position:Home>Performing Arts> Bass or Acoustic Guitar?

Question:Are you asking which one to take up first?

I'd recommend acoustic. The four lower-pitched strings of the guitar (in standard tuning) are the same as the four strings of a standard bass. Thus, the acoustic will teach you basic chord structures and involve more of your fingers; it's easier for an acoustic guitarist to learn bass than for a pure bassist to learn acoustic.

Acoustic is also likely to be a bit cheaper--with bass, you need the instrument and a decent bass practice amp, with acoustic you can learn with just the instrument.

Now, if you're a beginner, find a good teacher to coach you into proper hand, wrist and finger position--at least a couple of months' worth of lessons ought to do it--otherwise you'll likely form some bad habits that will mess up your skills, or worse yet, repetitive motion injuries that might require surgery.

if you wanna learn an instrument, then go for guitar.. if you like to sing, guitar is your bestfriend. bass is just boring. you can't do much unless there's a band playing along.
