Ibanez, Yamaha, Epiphone, Blueridge, Washburn -- all good sounding beginner-level acoustic guitars.

Go to your local music shop, tell them how much money you have to spend, and ask them to show you what they have in your price range. If you can, bring along a guitar-playing friend to play the instruments so you can hear what each one sounds like. If you don't have any guitar-playing friends, get one of the sales staff to play them for you. Either way, listen to each guitar with your back turned and decide which one sounds best to you. Then if you can play anything at all -- even just a chord or two -- try each of the guitars whose sound you liked, and see which one feels best in your hands. Remember that any reputable guitar shop will have someone on staff who can set the instrument up for you (ie: adjust the amount of space between the strings and the fingerboard, make sure the neck is straight, etc) so that it plays comfortably -- and any guitar can be set up so that it plays well. So the sound of the instrument is probably going to be your main criterion for deciding which you like best.

Good luck!

applause? brand
by ovation?
makes some solid stuff for cheap.

cheers!

Ibanez, Fender, or Epiphone acoustics are pretty cheap and they sound decent.

Usually, when beginners go for the electric the fan fav is the Fender Squire Strat

For beginners I like the Yamaha acoustic...at the Guitar Center you can get a really nice sounding one for $200.00, and even less when on sale....at the Guitar Center they are very generous at giving you a deal...just ask. When you check out these guitars be sure to play all the Yamaha's that are available as they all have a little different sound and action, check that the notes are clear with no buzz's...go up and down the fingerboard to make sure using single notes...you don't have to know how to play to do this....after you decide ask the clerk to play it for you to see if you still like the sound of it....good luck to you....there are a lot of great sounding guitars out there but for this price this is about the best !!!!!!!!

you can get really great deals on guitars and stuff there!
I got a Les Paul Ephiphone for like not even $280!! And that's including the amp, and that guitar sounds awesome!! The amp isn't too great, but the guitar is awesome, I love it!! Well, anyways, Good Luck!!!
