Position:Home>Performing Arts> I'm trying out for a high school musical, what should I sing?

Question:I'm trying out for my school's musical. I've done auditions before but it was completely different from this. I have to sing a Broadway piece and I have to have accompaniment with it. I'm in the alto range. So what would be good pieces for me to sing? And are there any good websites where I can get sheet music for free?

As for free... well, there's defiantly nowhere legal to get it. Beyond that I really don't know. You could try asking your music teacher if he/she has some books you could look at and copy. They could also make some suggestions as to what song would be best for you based on your vocal type and the show you are auditioning for.

Hope that helps, let me know what you decide to do would you?

you should do you are the music in me and disneychannel.com or yahoo

a song that you like, are comfortable with singing, and is related to the musical. you would make a great impression if you sang something from the musical.

Well you should sing soarin

go to www.azlyrics.com they should have the lyrics

Start spreading the news
I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it, New York, New York
These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
And make a brand new start of it
New York, New York
I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there
I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York.

I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there
I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York.

It's a great song isn't it? ;)

Hm...musicnotes.com is very good, it has the first page of almost all songs. You have to buy the full piece, but the first page should be fine for an audition.
I have no idea what you should sing---perhaps something from Urinetown (awful title) or The Phantom of the Opera.
Whatever you do, DO NOT SING ANYTHING FROM HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. It would be cliche`, and completely childish.
Best of Luck! :)

I think you should sing:

"Out Tonight"
from rent
Mimi sings it
ITS AWSOME!
Very sassy

The Wizard and I- Wicked
My Strongest Suit-Aida
Easy As Life- Aida
One Night Only- Dreamgirls
I Dreamed a Dream- Les Miserables
On My Own- Les Miserables
Nowadays- Chicago
I'd Give My Life For You- Miss Saigon
Your Daddy's Son- Ragtime
Back to Before- Ragtime
Over the Moon-Rent
No Good Deed- Wicked

It really depends on the musical. You want to sing something the same style.
If you are auditioning for an older musical you might want to sing something from Oklahoma, Music Man, Annie Get Your Gun, or South Pacific.
If it is a more modern musical you could sing something from Rent, WIcked, Cats, or Last FIve Years.
SIng something you are comfortable with. Just because you like the song doesn't mean it is the right song for you.
