In the pantomime, Buttons is a servant of Cinderella's father. He is Cinderella's only friend in the household. He is clearly in love with her, but loses her to Prince Charming.

Someone else said he was a mouse - well, maybe in the Disney film or something, but certainly not in the traditional panto.

Yeah. Basically Buttons is Cinderella's friend, but he fancies her a bit aswell.
