cleaning it very often is definitely helpul but still doesnt completely solve the problem cuz its your sweat giving you acne. i had the same problem and being in marching band you cant just carry around wipes or anything, and i found out [okay this is going to sound odd ut its true] if you lick your finger and put your saliva on your chin when it is getting sweating it does someting to make the bacteria lessen or stop giving you acne because that is what i now do, it really does help. also using an acne control medication or your chin with more than 2% salcyic acid will dyr it out more so you sweat less there.
The metal is holding bacteria on your chin area.
My advice is to get a package of alcohol wipes.
The individually wrapped type that are used just before you get an injection.
Or the towlettes made by Sea Breeze.
Keep a few in your pocket, and wipe your chin and then the underside of the flute mouthpiece with a wipe in between songs when you are practicing.
If course, you won't be able to do that during half-time or if you are marching in a parade, but at least it will cut down on the oil and bacteria during practice.
You can clean the lip plate with Windex or rubbing alcohol, get a disinfectant spray from the music store, or get a Jupiter cloth (which picks up oils and doesn't have any polish in it). Clean it every few days and wipe it down every time you put it away. Don't using silver or nickel polishing cloths.
