Position:Home>Performing Arts> Do you think somebody HAS to be born with a talent to be good at what they do?

Question:I think that some talents are inherited such as linguistic, musical, artistic etc which makes it easier for those people to master those skills. This does not mean that others cannot acquire the skill, it just means they have to work that much harder to reach or surpass those with the innate skills.

no practice at the the right thing and learning set your mind to it anything is possiable
That depends greatly on your definition of "good."

If you want to be a professional classical musician, the field is already overpopulated enough that to even stand a chance at being part of a good orchestra, you need to practice for hours every day and have tons of talent. If you want to be first chair in a high school band, then all you really need is practice and a small amount of luck (so you don't end up competing with the crazy talented guy who plays three hours a day.)
Interestingly, you ask this question in Performing arts. But you seem to not realise that in all walks of life the people who have natural talent are the ones who are best at what they do.
the best sportspeople are the ones who are designed best for the sport they play. So obviously the people with musical or artistic talent are going to be best in those fields
Yes. I don't think all the practice in the world will help someone if they do not have an innate talent for something. However, there are some people with in-born talents who never develop them.
No. Sure, someone with natural born talent has an advantage, but that advantage is nothing if they dont practice.
Don't have to be born with it. I started playing the clarinet in 6th grade and sucked at it. Now that I'm in my senior year, I'm section leader, first chair, have the solo in marching band, and I've got the top scholarship coming to me.

Practice is everything. If you practice enough at just about anything, you can become good at it.
I sure hope not, other wise I'm screwed.
i think natural talent makes something easy to begin, and slightly easier to understand; but to master the talent that'll only take you so far.

for instance, i have natural talent with the bass, but none with the oboe. i practice the oboe alot more than the bass, and now i'm better at oboe! it all has to do with work, and determination.
i definitely dont think so. i know that many people are born with talent and many things just come easily for them, and they are lucky, but many other people are not. i know that i was not born with that special gift of talent because i started learning the flute in fifth grade, and everyone was much better at then me al the way up to eighth grade even though i always practiced and they never did. it as so hard for me. but now i am a junior and i have practiced so much that i am at the top of the class and am the best flautist. i was not born musically talented,m but i practiced enough to let myself be.
Definitely not, hard work is key to success. Obviously talent is a major proponent in getting started and can give you an edge on other people, but it can only go so far. There is a great book called Talent is Never Enough that is about this idea. Someone without talent may have to work twice as hard as someone with talent, but that persons talent can only get them started and hard work does the rest.
