Position:Home>Performing Arts> A good high school musical...?

Question:hello...
I direct the musicals in the high school where I teach, I have strong older girls (11th/12th), and strong, but younger boys (9th/10th)... I was thinking Little Shop or You're A Good Man Charlie Brown... but if you can think of anything else that you have enjoyed maybe you'll give me a spark! (numbers are not a problem)
Below are the shows we've done recently
Anything Goes, Joseph and the..., On The Town, Music Man, Oklahoma, Hello Dolly, Guys and Dolls, Annie, (Grease also was just done by the community theatre) soooooo.... THANKS!

Just last year, our school did Once On This Island and it was a blast! it is set in the French Antilles, and is very colorful and tropic. It has a pretty equal amount of girl and boy roles, and leaves lot's of room for changes if necessary(such as switching a girl's part to a boy's part). I myself was "Mama Euralie"!(you can download some of the songs on walmart.com)

Also, Seussical the musical is one of my absolute favorites. it takes awhile to fall in love with, but once you do, you're hooked. It also has a lot of good roles with flamboyant comedy and serious parts. In case you didn't know, it is based on several famous Dr. Seuss stories. (Horton Hears A Who, Cat In The Hat, etc.) I personally played the "Sour Kangaroo", and had the time of my life!

Some other good ones include "The Sound Of Music", and "The Wizard Of Oz", which ,judging by you're list of previous musicals, may be right up your lane. But if you're looking to take a risk and have a lot of fun, go with Seussical or Once on This Island!

Have fun, and Break a leg!
Well, I was going to say Annie, but since you've already done that, maybe do Disney's High School Musical. See, my high school is doing Annie this year, that's why i was going to suggest it, and last year we did High School Musical. It's actually a good production, and it draws in a lot of young kids and their parents from your area, and even from out of town. When we did it, it sold out seats, and had people coming across the state just to see it. And we're a very small school...and a very small drama club. I think it would be a good thing to do high school musical, but that's just my opinion. I hope this was some help, and i hope you find a show to do!!
How about Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Pirates of Penzance (yes, I know it's an operetta, not a musical) Cats, Fiddler on the Roof,
Hello!

'Footloose' would be a rather fun show that you could possibly do and there are several men's parts. Like a person above me mentioned, High School Musical would also be a nice show that you could put on [however, I have no experiences in this musical]. Last year, our theatre did 'Once Upon a Mattress' and it was fantastic! It was very creative and it had a good amount of songs dealing with both boys and girls.

Perhaps Les Miserables?
With the young boys you could always do "Oliver" or "Peter Pan". How about "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying"? Or... "Cinderella", "Bye,Bye Birdie", "Thoroughly Modern Millie"....
