I tune mine by ear, using the pitch pipe, and matching the sound. Use your pegs or the fine-tuners (the bottom screws) to make it sharper or flatter. Go back to whenever you've taken physics. Would a tighter string make a higher or lower sound. Or, if you've never taken physics, think of playing with rubberbands when you were little. Then remember, righty-tighty, lefty-loosey and you're good. Be careful though. Especially when using a peg to tune the E. They do break, and E strings do cut through skin when broken. :-)

If you only have fine tuner, that's fine. It's probably not a great idea to not have one on the E however, because its such a delicate string. I have four fine tuners on my current violin, but I've had violins that have had only one.
Well I play Viola the bottom screws are for the fine tuning but I dont no how to tune it except for a tuner sorry!
I normally tune my violin with my pegs (I only have a bottom screw on the E string). You pull the string tighter to make the sound sharper (to do this you will want to turn the peg away from you and simultaneously push the peg in). You turn the peg toward you to make the sound lower (this loosens the string). You want to blow the pitch pipe and play your string---adjusting the peg to match the sound.
