Position:Home>Performing Arts> Live stage setup, trying to use all available mics?

Question:My family and I (2 generations) are preparing for a performance in Florida later this month. From what I learned, venues are 2 mid to large sized churches with decent stage. I'm bringing/running Mackie1640 as submix into house for 2 keys, drum kit, bass, sax and 6 vox. Trying to keep budget down (spent a lot already) and use what I have, as well as new gear. Can I use an Oktava MK-319 to mic the sax, or is this mic never suitable for live use? I know most would say use sure bet Sure , but not a Shure kind of guy. All vox mics are Sennheiser E835s, drum kit is Audix DP-5. If not, any feeling on EV N/D 468?

The 319 can be used live, and sax is probably the best application of the instruments you're micing. The main thing to concern yourself with is that it's a very sensitive mic, so you have to watch the input gain to avoid clipping, and you probably need to roll off some of the low end or you might get a nasty low-end feedback. Don't forget to turn on the phantom power.
i dont care.
Have you tried the Sennheiser on the sax? You don't mention if it's tenor or alto but since Sennheisers work so well with other applications you might want to try it. I am a Sure 57 guy for instruments but everyone has their own taste. They're so simple & when mixing live, I find simple is usually a great choice. Good luck.
