I play the acoustic. I taught myself with a Mel Bay video. I also play the keyboard and violin. The guitar is my favorite, perhaps because its what I'm best at. My grandfather played the guitar also, but I really wasn't around him.

It isn't that hard to learn, but in the beginning you have to have enough motivation to get through the first few weeks because your fingers hurt. But, it was so much fun for me I didn't want to stop. I really liked the Mel Bay video because I could play a song right off of the bat. He started with one string at a time. Once you get through all of that, you learn the chords, it was tricky for me to stretch my hand out, because that was the first instrument I ever played. Maybe you won't have a problem because you have to stretch your hand to play the piano.
i got one for christmas... it was only 100 bucks.. ive been trying to learn since... i really never pick it up though... but it just takes practice... i should start learning, but ide rather pick up that xbox 360 controller instead.
IF YOU PLAY ANOTHER STRINGED INSTRUMENT i THINK YOU'LL FIND GUITAR FAIRLY SIMPLE. iT CAN OF COURSE BE AS COMPLICATED AS YOU WANT TO MAKE IT AS WELL, LIKE ANY INSTRUMENT. sAME BASICS AS PIANO, JUST LAID OUT DIFFERENTLY - and a lot easier to carry around - sorry for caps, oops!
Yes I do, I play and teach classical and acoustic guitar. It's not an easy instrument to play....if you play piano you know what music involves....only piano doesn't hurt....playing guitar hurts your hands and fingers until you get those callouses required to keep your fingers from hurting. If you just play chords guitar isn't too hard to learn...but if you play notes, chords, and fingerstyle it can be complicated !! I believe the best way to learn guitar is to have a live teacher but I know that a lot of students can't afford one....so I'm sending you some free sites...I'm not crazy about the free sites....there not very complete.....I'd much rather see you go on the second set of sites that I'm going to give you....some have as many as six free lessons as an introduction. Some have online lessons, DVD's, Videos, Cds, and books that they want you to buy....and some are quite good, and less expensive than private lessons....so have a look and see what you think !!

Guitar is one of those instruments that even if you are not a virtuoso, you can still make a great performance, which people will love and admire. Its what you put in it. I mean Bob Dylan couldn't probably play the easiest of Hendel's arppegios dor s---t and yet his is the greatetest. Anyway, its not hard to learn, and you will have lots of fun once your fingers get used to the frets. Then you can choose some theme or a song by ear, or if you know tabs or notes -that, and go ahead!
it cost me a little to learn the guitar but its easy
