Position:Home>Performing Arts> How do you paly an F# on a Tenor Sax?

Question:Fingerings please, thanx.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Fingerings please, thanx.
Low F# - left hand three fingers, right hand middle finger
High F# - same as low with the octave key

There is also an alternate fingering for when you have to go from F to F#. You finger F and add the key next to the lower right hand palm keys. This is a smoother way to go from F to F#.
F# on the tenor sax is fingered all three fingers on top and just the middle finger/key on the bottom. Use the register key if it is a high F#, no register key (thumb key) for low F#.
Third finger on the right hand.
There's three keys on the bottom, and hit the MIDDLE one. Don't put any other keys down with your right hand.

where x= a closed hole and o= an open hole

For the higher F# you need the octave key as well.

For the very high F# you need to check a fingering chart - that note is out of range on many horns.

There is no difference in fingering soprano, alto, tenor, or bari.
