Position:Home>Performing Arts> I want to learn string instrument but i can't choose between Cello and Violi

Question:Go with the violin. Here's why:

1) It's smaller and easier to transport, especially if you fly a lot.
2) It's smaller and less expensive - you can get a good-quality violin for the price of a crappy cello.
3) It's easier to find violin teachers than cello teachers.
4) Violin strings are shorter and much cheaper than cello strings.
5) The bow is smaller than a cello bow (and cheaper).
6) Orchestras and symphonies need many more violinists than cellists. Your chances are much better at getting in.

violin
Well the cello is pretty big and can be hard to play. I would go for violin.

AND

the guitar is awesome!
I love the sound of a cello, but it's big to lug around. You should consider a Viola. I used to play the violin and i had viola envy, but if you know how to play the violin you can basic learn reallly quick to play the piano as well, or atleast read sheet notes.
Go for the Violin
Ukelele is much more versatile, and cheaper!
personally i would choose the violin because it seems more feminin but then gain, it's up to you. p.s.- it's not as heavy to carry around either
Follow your gut. Everyone will have an opinion. I played the cello and my sister played the viola. I thought my instrument had a much prettier sound and enjoyed the playing stance better than I would have the violin, but it was a bigger instrument, more prone to damage as I lugged it around.

Maybe you could listen to some well-known violin and cello concertos and see which sound appeals to you more. Check out anything by Yo-Yo Ma, especially the Bach cello concertos. Pablo Casals is another great cellist.

I am not too familiar with violin music, but I know Itzhak Perlman is very highly regarded. (Hope I spelled his name right.)

Good luck and happy playing.
My personal opinion: choose the cello. The cello has the most expressive voice of all the string instruments (again, my personal opinion only)! Also, every kid and their sister plays violin, but cello isn't so common, so your opportunities to shine are that much better.

Either way, enjoy your music! Good luck.
You should play the instrument that you feel in your heart....I am a string person....but I didn't even have to think about it I knew classical guitar was my thing....I love both the cello and guitar....but if I had to choose it would be the violin !!!!!!!
i also have almost the same question couple of week back. both the instrument is equally hard but i decided to choose the cello because violinist are sooo common. also i like how the cello is placed cause there's a tail spike there to support the cello. ya the bad side to it is that it's more expensive and also quite big to bring around. but if you really like the instrument, you wouldn't mind lugging it around.
As a pianist, with no experience in strings, you may find my answering awkward. (In my personal opinion, cello is the way to go!) Each has value, that is certain. There is a lot that should be considered. Will one or the other be more cumbersome to play for you? Portableness (the English language rocks, you can make up words... besides, portability is a business thing... random tangent...) is another. The violin is small, the cello not so much. Another aspect to consider is sound. Listen to several recordings where each instrument is predominant and think about which one you like more. Also consider comfort in actually playing the instrument; the violin being under your chin, and the cello on the floor in front of you. Also, the size of your hands! I'm not saying that really matters, because, as with piano, small isn't necessarily bad, it just has it's disadvantages. So, think about your hand size in comparison to the instrument. Well, that's enough rambling from me!
violin would probably be a better bet if it is your first stringed instrument.
