acting career?

Question:Where would be a good place to start? It doesnt have to be anything major. Oh, and I live in the Chicagoland area.

I'm a professional voice and film actor, have been for 6 years, and here's the great advice I got starting out:
1) Get trained
2) Get good
3) Get an agent
4) Get work and get paid

That's pretty much the progression, and you're in a great town for it (No, LA is nowhere near the end-all, be-all, and Chicago, Austin, NC, NM, and Baton Rouge are likewise fantastic places to build experience and credibility).

You should check out chicagoactor.com, and David Lawrence's Chicago Acting blog.

Find a coach for what you want -- modelling, acting, voice over, whatever. Train with them for a while.

Find a reputable agent. They should be registered with the state, and you never have to pay an agent -- they get commission from jobs you do. If an agent asks for any up-front money, it may be a scam.

Work your tail off. Acting is hard work, and wicked rewarding. Getting an agent is another start, not the end, of the journey.
