Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: breathe? What about when you're talking? Can you start talking quietly, get louder, YELL A LITTLE, speak more quietly, and whisper? OR ARE YOU STUCK LIKE AUSTIN POWERS??

Try it with speaking, and pay attention to what your body is doing. Pay particular attention to the throat and mouth, and also to the belly - especially the diaphragm and the muscles of the abdomen.

Volume in singing (I just tried it) is dependent upon the abdominal muscles and the speed of air flowing through the throat. I found just now that when I sing louder, I contract my abdomen, and relax it to sing more quietly. Training your abdominal muscles is difficult but possible.
