What is the best way to fit a tap-dancing octopus with tap shoes?

Question:

What is the best way to fit a tap-dancing octopus with tap shoes?

Should I crimp the taps to the end of the tentacles, or should they have little handles that the octopus can grab hold of?
Personally I favour the second option, it seems less cruel. But we want to get the best sound possible. Any help would be appreciated.
