Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I watched a 1971 version of this a few times when I was in elementary school in the late 70s / early 80s. The movie was brought to my home town of Woods Hole MA by some scientists onboard a Russian fishing trawler/factory ship that was paying a friendship visit. So, it was in Russian (I think without subtitles.)

I remember being quite impressed at the time. The special effects were somewhat primitive, but it was a dramatic story. I remember especially liking the part where a giant talking head lifts itself up to allow Rusland to pick up some enormous sword that he then used to slay some evil wizard.
