Question:

How do I start to learn the Oboe??

Okay, so i just got the oboe today, its very different from anything id ever played before, i usually play brass. but i mainly play trombone. And today i asked if i could try the Oboe. My band teacher said yes, told me where to put my fingers, how to get it to make a sound, and all the basics, but i still dot know any notes. sooo i came here for any tips on how to play this awesome instrument. ^-^ thank you

Well, I have a book its BEST In CLASS- OBOE BOOK ONE, it has the fingerings and how to play the notes, but seeing that I usually play a low brass instrument (AKA the trombone :-D ) all i needed to know before is slide positions, so im kinda a fish out of water here. But these two instruments are the two that i have always wanted to play, so im going to stick with them. but seriously, i need any tips for almost anything, like posture, umm... how not to get light headed when im playing, and how to make the notes go a little longer than 3 beats, like i have been practicing and i can only get them to equal a dotted half note whenever i want them to be a whole note. so please, any tips for oboe in general would be nice. thank you.

Well, I kind of understand Treble Cleft. There is a chart for that in my book too. Oh, and one more thing i kind of need to know is how do you play softly??? i can only play loud obnoxious notes, where that really annoys me because i have wonderful tone and control on the trombone. thank you all.
