How good at guitar should i be before i try out for a band?

Ive been playing guitar for over 5 years,i can play most chords,lead parts etc cant improvise while jamming,i guess it's because of this that i dont feel i have the right to maybe waste peoples time with an audition

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Why don't you try playing along with songs already recorded, but play harmonies, make up riffs, keep up. Try to play along with something you ordinarily wouldn't listen to, in order to see what else is out there. You'd be surprised what you can snatch from other types of music. i.e.Dolly Pardon-Whitney Housten
