Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Have you ever asked why Canadians seem to be so prominent in US comedy shows and movies?

Have you ever noticed that Aboriginal Americans are the most ironic people in the nation?

As the "red-headed stepchild" of the British Empire, I think the Irish need a good sense of humor in order to get through each day. It's not necessarily comedy, but a sense of humor about things that helps you get through each day.

It's certainly manifest in the works of Oscar Wilde, G B Shaw, and Samuel Beckett. If you'll notice, they each employ a great deal of satiric and sardonic outlook on the world. The same kind of thing comes up to a certain extent in JM Synge.
