Question:

Violist playing piano?

I have been playing the viola for about 3 years and I want to know how can i not get confused between treble clef and alto clef notes. This has been a problem for a long time . Should I go to a piano teacher or continue teaching myself the piano and hopefully not get confused? also, I am 13 years old.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: If you eventually want to play advanced piano works, do NOT teach yourself. Take piano lessons at least until you develop a strong foundation. Any mistakes or bad habits you develop in your technique and playing now will be very hard to correct later. A teacher may be able to give you tips on reading different clefs properly, but practice at doing it is most important. If you keep working on it you will recognize notes in any clef without thinking about it. This ability will also help you with transposition.
