Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: One of the ways I learned chord mastery in my beginning years was to draw them and name the corresponding chromatic chords beneath them. For example, start with the simple F major chord. Then underneath, list the numbers 2 through 12 in chronological order. Insert the names of the chord beside each number that equates to the fret--like this:

2. F# or Gb
3. G
4. G# or Ab
5. A

And so on.

Diagram the difficult chords as well. Keep the chords in a notebook for quick reference. Compile chords that go together, such as G, G7, C, A7, D7, etc.

Always remember to place your fingertips nearest the fret bar--not on top of it, but close to it.
