Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: As a music teacher, I'm more interested to find out if you can sing. I don't put as much importance on the song choice. Excpet I dislike hearing auditioners with songs like the ABC song, Happy Birthday, The Star Spangled banner. It makes me think they didn't take the time to learn something new.

Stick with songs from musicals. There are so many and they are GREAT for tenors. Think West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie, Pippin, Oliver, Godspell, The King and I, The Wizard of Oz, and on and on. If not from musicals, then folk songs like Shenandoah, Loch Lomond.

Go to the library and look up Broadway solos and see what your library has to offer.
