Question:

About Clavinovas, what does hammer graded mean and what do you call the feature that controls sustain?

I want the keys that are weighted to feel like a piano. I'm looking at used clavinovas and wonder if the CVP has these aforementioned features.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I think it's graded hammer action...which is simply a piano feel on a digital piano or synth with heavier bass keys that gradually become lighter as you approach the treble side of the board. It's award winning, patented technology by Yamaha.

The feature that controls sustain is the sustain pedal (on digital pianos & synths) or the damper pedal (it lifts the dampers, allowing the strings to sustain) on an acoustic piano.
