While it's probably not considered a new genre by most people in the USA, it is certainly thought to be a unique type of music in Ghana. It's like hip hop. A little jazzy, a little hip-hoppy. Some people will find it similar to the latin and reggae that is more commonly heard in the state. It's great music. It's pretty diverse. Some sounds more like hip hop, some sounds more like jazz, some sounds more like reggae, some sounds more latin. You can also hear some middle easter influences in some of the chord structures (which is common in some African music).

I really like it. However I don't know what they're saying, however I have heard that the words can be a little nasty (just like some hip hop in the USA).

I would certainly consider it to be a genre of music.
