Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: In my opinion, Ailey did his first show and premiered "revelations" which was such a big hit that he could never equal it again in his career. Just my opinion.

My boss for 15 years was in that first company, so sadly all I could offer you would be stories and some gossip. She was dancing on Broadway at the time of his first season and said that everyone would get off the show they were working on and rehearse for Ailey late at night for free.

Another fun tidbit is that his favorite song was "Careless Love."
