Question:

I need help from anyone who plays violin?

I have a concert coming up and i need help to keep my left arm from hurting when i keep it up for a long time. I usually rest my arm while i'm playing when i practice, but i cant do that during the concert of course. What can i do to keep it from hurting?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Playing the violin should not hurt your arm. You may well not be holding the violin properly. See a teacher at once.

I am very concerned about some of the responders who suggested trying to increase your endurance. If you overdo playing the violin, especially where it already hurts, you can get carpal tunnel syndrome or other reuse / misuse related conditions. (see below link). Very Bad News.

Playing the violin is really an athletic activity. You should warm up the muscles and tendons you will be using, say with a chinese medicine ball you roll around in your palm, or by doing streching exercises, before you start.

Icing or using heat pads after you practice can help reduce the incidence of pain later.

Good luck.
