Question:

Why is it that....?

when I sing out loud, in my head I can sound great, (you know...X-Factor material) and yet everyone else says I sound terrible, and to be fair, when I record myself I have to agree...I do! But why do I sound so different (and great) to myself? :o(

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Since your ears are behind your mouth, the soundwaves of what you are singing reverberate somewhat through your jaw bone before they get to your ears. This is why people often hear themselves as speaking lower (or higher, depending on the person) than they really are.
