Why do musical bellringers wear gloves?

I attended a concert of the Alleluia Ringers of Concordia University a few days ago, and I noticed that they wear gloves. Why?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Being as the bells are made of brass they tarnish easily. It also affects the pitch and tone...being as they are not cheap....best to safeguard them.
