Question:

What kind of degrees would I need in order to be a concert pianist?

I'd like to play in an orchestra. What are some things I need to do to get there?
Any pianists, please email me.
Thanks

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: No degrees needed. You just have to be very talented and have a good agent. You need to treat your daily practice routine like a job. 8 hours a day would do it. Having a good, well-established, well-known teacher helps as well.

The only reason for getting the degree in piano performance would be to establish connections with the professional musician's circuit through the university/college.

It's nice to have the degree on your resume, but not absolutely necessary. John Nakamatsu, recent Van Cliburn award winner, was a teacher of high school German before entering the professional piano circuit.
