Question:

In the key of D, is the II V I progressions E, A7, D6???

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: OK, it depends a bit on your system. If you mean that the "II" chord is major, then E is correct. This system is not used so much anymore. Most people would now call that "V/V" (or "five of five") which would still be an E major chord. If it is a "ii", then it would be an e minor chord.

If the "V" has no 7, then it should just be an A, not an A7. "D6" would be "I6". This is tricky, too, because in jazz and pop "D6" means a D chord with an added sixth. (D-F#-A-B). In classical, a I6 chord would actually be first inversion (with F# in the bass.)

Does that help?
