Question:

Is there an acoustic rating of symphony halls?

I just saw Peter and the Wolf at the SF Symphony (Davies Hall) and found the sound of the strings less "live" than I was expecting. I don't go to enough symphony performances so I'm not sure I'm right. Does anyone know how the SF Symphony Hall (as opposed to the Orchestra itself; I'm talking about the building not the talent) is ranked? And if so, what are rankings for other halls?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Here is one classical music writer's opinion of the ten-best houses in the world. (Of course, much of that is subjective. Each expert may have their own preferences for halls, as well as which for what kind of music (symphony, opera, soloists, pianists, violinists, etc.)World's Best Concert Halls - Top 10 Concert Halls
