Question:

Just wondering?

I have played the clarinet for almost 2 years now. I have always used a size 2.5 reed, but now they chip really easily when I play. Should I change my reed size or just be more careful with them?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I start my beginning clarinet students on a 2.5, but I try to get them on a 3 or 3.5 within a year or two. The lower the number the easier it is to produce a sound. But, when you start to play on a higher numbered reed (harder wood) you get a much better tone. I would suggest trying a 3.5. It will be an adjustment at first, but once you get used to it you will probably have much more success.
Best of luck. Cheers!
