Question:

Is it true that drinking vinegar is good for your vocal chords?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Nothing you drink actually touches your vocal chords; the throat isn't wired like that. But many people (including myself) advocate drinking lots and lots of water to help ones voice. So how is that? By drinking lots of water and getting all of your body well hydrated, you vocal chords get the same benefit the rest of your body is getting, in that they also become well hydrated.

That said, I have never heard of vinegar as being good for your voice. I've heard of lemon juice, honey, gargling with salt water, there are several throat sprays specifically for singers, tea is good, etc. But I've never, in 11 years of choral and vocal performance, heard of vinegar as a vocal health tool/remedy. Best to stick with lots of room temperature water and warm tea with honey.
