What is a good song to audition with for a musical?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Something either classic Rodgers and Hammerstein or classic Julie Andrews. Examples:

"The Gentleman is a Dope" from Allegro (alto solo)
"You're a Queer One, Julie Jordan" from Carousel (mezzo solo)
"Whistle a Happy Tune" or "Shall I Tell You What I Think of You?" from The King and I (mezzo solos)
"Everybody's Got a Home But Me" from Pipe Dream
"Cockeyed Optimist" or "I'm In Love With a Wonderful Guy" from South Pacific (mezzo solos)
"If I Loved You" from Carousel
"I Loved You Once in Silence" from Camelot
"Falling in Love with Love" from The Boys From Syracuse
