Question:

What is a good audition song for a 15 year old male tenor?

I want to audition for California Musical Theatre in Sacramento. I need two songs (one up-beat, on ballad). I need to bring sheet music so I am assuming there will be someone playing piano. If you know of any good songs, please tell me. I need all the help I can get. Thanks!

Ballads:
"Charlie" from Charlie and Algernon (Tenor, dramatic solo, ending vocally demanding, possible for audition)
"Pity the Child" from Chess (Tenor Solo)
"Being Alive" from Company (shows off Tenor voice, possible last 16-bar audition)
"If I Can't Love Her" from Disney's Beauty and the Beast (Broadway version, dramatic solo with large range)
"Bargaining" from Do I Hear a Waltz? (tenor solo, potential for audition if shortened, allows for varied characterizations)
"I Know About Love" from Do Re Mi. (Tenor Solo, audition potential, shows range and make strength)
"What More Can I Say" from Falsettos. (Tenor, lovely, ballad, tender and sweet with soaring melodies that would serve very well for an audition piece)
"I Want to Make Magic" from Fame. (Tenor solo, good acting piece for class or audition, a yearning desire song)
"Fanny" from Fanny. (Lovely tenor solo, shows off the voice, good for audition)
"Like a God" from Flower Drum Song. (Tenor, possible audition, shows off the voice, good ballad)
"More I Cannot Wish You" from Guys and Dolls. (Tenor, charm song)
"Giants In the Sky" from Into the Woods. (Jack??s solo song that shows off a light tenor voice beautifully, a portion could be considered for an audition song that shows off the voice)
"Night of My Nights" from Kismet. (audition for quality tenor voice)
"Not a Day Goes By" from Merrily We Roll Along. (Tenor Solo; I use this as my audition ballad even though I'm a mezzo, as it is pretty gender neutral. I LOVE this piece, look into it.)
"I Talk To the Trees" from Paint Your Wagon. (Tenor, beautiful, lilting melody, ending possibly suited for audition)
"A Bit of Earth" from The Secret Garden. (Tenor Solo, ballad, excellent for acting)
"Finishing the Hat" from Sundays in the Park with George. (Tenor Solo, a beautiful, passionate description of what an artist must do)
"Something's Coming" from West Side Story. (quality tenor number, exciting, up-tempo, good for audition)

Uptempo:
"I'll Go Home with Bonnie Jean" from Brigadoon. (possible audition for lyric tenor, up-tempo yet romantic)
"Geraniums in the Winder" from Carosel. (tenor charm character song)
"Hey, Look At Me!" from Charlie and Algernon. (Audition potential for Tenor, up-tempo, exciting)
"Cadillac Car" from Dreamgirls (Featured Tenor with Chorus, a fun song, shows character, could be used as an audition for a revue)
"I??m Calm" from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. (Tenor comedic solo, possible for audition, works well in characterization exercise for class situation)
"I Like Him" from Man of LaMancha. (Tenor, comic, charm, character solo)
"Kansas City" from Oklahoma. (performed as a Tenor solo, good for audition or character movement study)

Give these a shot. Or, the above link to this site seems troubled, so here's an audition song search engine: http://www.musicaltheatreaudition.com/sm...
